Our Clinics History

Our clinic has been owned and operated by Salmon Arm Optometrists for over seventy years with Albert Bedford being Salmon Arm’s first druggist/optometrist.

1945:

Albert Bedford’s son George Victor Bedford took over his father’s practice. Dr. G. V. Bedford was our very own George Ujimoto’s optometrist from grade 6 to grade 12 and inquired what George’s future plans were when he was in grade 12. The way George saw it, he had two options

1. Become an undertaker/embalmer
2. Study optometry

After some encouragement from Dr. Bedford, George decided to pursue optometry, return to Salmon Arm and work with Dr. Bedford.

1977:

Dr. Ujimoto took over the practice of Dr. Bedford.

2007:

Lindsay, interested in optometry, decides to apply for a summer job at Dr. Ujimoto’s practice.

2014:

Dr. Ujimoto encouraged Lindsay to attend optometry school, and after waiting patiently for many years for her to graduate, Dr. Mushaluk (Pringle) returned to Salmon Arm to work with Dr. Ujimoto.

2022:

After a successful 45 year long career, Dr. Ujimoto is now enjoying all the things retirement in the Shuswap has to offer.
